Guide complet de la spécialité
Dermal fillers are one of the most requested non-surgical treatments among visitors to Turkey, and it is easy to see why: experienced injectors, a wide choice of branded products, and prices well below UK or Western European clinics. Because fillers are quick and involve little downtime, many patients combine a session with a short city break in Istanbul, Izmir or Antalya. The key is treating them as a genuine medical procedure, not a beauty add-on.
What dermal fillers are and how they work
Most modern fillers are gels of hyaluronic acid (HA) — a sugar molecule your skin already produces that binds water and adds volume. Injected under the skin, HA plumps hollows, softens folds and can subtly reshape features such as the lips, cheeks, chin and jawline. A major safety advantage of HA is that it is dissolvable: if you dislike the result or a complication occurs, a doctor can inject hyaluronidase to break it down. Some fillers instead use collagen-stimulating materials, which last longer but cannot be reversed.
Types of filler: HA versus collagen stimulators
| Filler type | How it works | Typical longevity | Reversible? |
|---|---|---|---|
| HA — lips & fine lines (e.g. Juvederm, Restylane, Teosyal) | Adds soft, water-binding volume | 6–12 months | Yes, with hyaluronidase |
| HA — structural (cheeks, chin, jawline) | Firmer gel for lift and contour | 12–18 months | Yes, with hyaluronidase |
| Calcium hydroxylapatite (e.g. Radiesse) | Stimulates your own collagen | 12–18 months | No |
| Poly-L-lactic acid (e.g. Sculptra) | Gradual collagen build over months | Up to ~2 years | No |
Longevity varies with product, area and metabolism; ask exactly which brand and volume you are receiving.
Who dermal fillers suit
- Adults who want to restore lost volume in the cheeks, temples or under-eye area
- Those bothered by static lines such as nasolabial folds or marionette lines
- People wanting subtle lip enhancement or better lip balance
- Anyone seeking non-surgical contouring of the jawline, chin or a small nasal bump
- Patients who prefer a reversible, gradual option over surgery
- Not suitable in pregnancy or breastfeeding, over active skin infections, or with certain autoimmune and bleeding conditions — always disclosed at consultation
The procedure, step by step

Consultation & facial assessment
A doctor reviews your goals, medical history and facial anatomy, then agrees a realistic plan and product.
Cleansing & numbing
The area is cleaned and a topical anaesthetic applied; most HA fillers also contain lidocaine for comfort.
Injection
The filler is placed with a fine needle or a blunt cannula and moulded as needed. A session usually takes 15–45 minutes.
Review & aftercare
Your injector checks symmetry, gives aftercare advice and often books a two-week review to top up if required.
Recovery timeline
Day 0
Immediately after
Mild swelling, redness or small bumps are normal; you can usually return to light activity the same day.
Days 1–3
Swelling & bruising
Any bruising tends to peak then fade; cold compresses and arnica help. Most people fly home comfortably now.
Days 4–14
Settling
The filler softens and integrates; the final look is best judged at around two weeks.
Week 2+
Review
A good clinic offers a review to assess symmetry and add a small top-up if needed.
Results and how long they last
Results are visible immediately and refine over two weeks as swelling settles. Honestly, fillers are temporary: HA in mobile areas such as the lips typically lasts 6–12 months, while firmer structural gels in the cheeks or jaw can last 12–18 months before gradually breaking down. Longevity depends on the product, the area, how much is used and your own metabolism. Maintaining the look means repeat sessions — budget for this rather than expecting a one-off fix.

Choosing a clinic safely
- Confirm the injector is a licensed doctor or qualified medical nurse — in Turkey aesthetic injections should not be done by a beautician
- Ask to see the sealed, branded product box and check the batch and expiry before injection
- Make sure hyaluronidase is kept on site to manage a vascular complication or dissolve an unwanted result
- Expect a proper consultation and consent discussion, not a same-minute upsell
- Be wary of prices that seem too cheap — genuine branded filler has a real cost
- Check reviews and before/after cases, and confirm who manages any follow-up once you have flown home
The two big red flags
The rare but serious risk of filler is vascular occlusion — filler entering a blood vessel, which can cause skin damage or, very rarely, visual loss. This is why an injector trained to recognise and treat it, with hyaluronidase to hand, matters far more than price. The second red flag is overfilling: a clinic that keeps adding syringes can leave an unnatural, 'pillow' look. Good injectors often advise less.
Medical disclaimer
This guide is general information, not medical advice. Filler suitability, product choice and dosage depend on your anatomy, health and history, and can only be decided in a personal consultation with a qualified practitioner.
Fillers should look like a rested version of you, not a different face. The best result is usually the one nobody can point to — subtle, balanced and fully reversible if you change your mind.
