Guía completa de la especialidad
Botox is the best-known non-surgical treatment in the world, and in Turkey it is both widely available and noticeably cheaper than in the UK or Western Europe. For many international patients it is an easy, low-commitment way to look less tired without surgery. But 'Botox' is a prescription-only medicine — botulinum toxin — and the difference between a fresh, natural result and a stiff, over-treated one comes down entirely to the skill of the person injecting it.
What Botox is and how it works
Botox is a purified form of botulinum toxin type A. Injected in tiny amounts into a specific muscle, it temporarily blocks the nerve signal that makes that muscle contract. The muscle relaxes, so the overlying skin creases less and dynamic wrinkles — the lines you make when you frown, squint or raise your brows — soften. It does not fill lines at rest the way filler does; those two treatments do different jobs and are often combined.
Common treatment areas and brands
- Forehead lines — horizontal lines from raising the brows
- Glabella (frown lines) — the vertical '11s' between the brows
- Crow's feet — smile lines at the outer eyes
- Bunny lines & lip flip — nose crinkles and a subtle upper-lip lift
- Masseter — jaw slimming and relief for teeth grinding (bruxism)
- Underarm sweating (hyperhidrosis) — a medical, not cosmetic, use
- Approved brands you may be offered include Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Bocouture — ask which is being used and at what dilution
The procedure, step by step
Consultation & muscle assessment
A doctor watches your expressions, discusses your goals and decides which muscles to treat and at what dose.
Cleansing & mapping
The skin is cleaned and injection points are marked. No anaesthetic is usually needed as the needle is very fine.
Injection
A series of small injections is placed into the target muscles. The whole appointment typically takes 10–15 minutes.
Aftercare advice
You stay upright, avoid rubbing the area and skip heavy exercise, saunas and alcohol for the rest of the day.

When you'll see results and recovery
Day 0
Straight after
You can return to normal activity immediately; there may be tiny bumps or slight redness that fade within an hour.
Days 3–5
Onset
The muscle-relaxing effect begins to show as expressions soften.
Days 10–14
Full effect
The final result settles; this is the point to book any small top-up for balance.
Month 3–4
Wearing off
Movement gradually returns and lines reappear, which is when most people repeat.
Results and how long they last
Botox does not work instantly — expect to see changes from around day 3 and the full effect by two weeks. It is firmly temporary: most patients get 3–4 months from a treatment, sometimes less the first time as the muscle is 'learning' to relax. There is no permanent version, so this is an ongoing commitment rather than a one-off. Used well, the aim is a softened, rested look that still moves naturally — not a mask.

Choosing a clinic safely
- Insist the injector is a licensed doctor or trained medical professional, not a beautician or a spa technician
- Ask which brand of toxin is used and check it comes from a sealed, in-date, refrigerated vial
- Choose a clinic that treats to your facial expression, not a fixed template — good injectors often use less
- Expect a two-week review and a clear policy on top-ups included in the price
- Avoid deals priced per 'unit' with no named product, or prices that look impossibly low
- Confirm how a rare side effect such as a droopy eyelid would be managed if you have already flown home
The frozen-look red flag
Overdone Botox is the clearest warning sign of an inexperienced or overselling injector: a smooth but expressionless forehead, heavy brows, or an inability to show emotion. Too much in the wrong spot can also cause a temporary droopy eyelid or brow (ptosis). These effects are not permanent — they wear off in weeks to a few months — but they are avoidable. Conservative dosing and a review appointment are the marks of a good clinic.
Medical disclaimer
This guide is general information, not medical advice. Botulinum toxin is a prescription medicine; whether it suits you, which areas to treat and the correct dose can only be decided in a personal consultation with a qualified medical practitioner.
Good Botox is quiet. If people say you look well-rested rather than 'done', your injector has judged it right — the goal is softer lines, not a face that can no longer move.
