Dental work is the most common reason patients fly to Turkey. A clinic in Istanbul, Antalya or Izmir can rebuild a full smile using the same ceramics and implant brands used in Western Europe, for a fraction of the price. This page explains the procedures that are actually booked, what they should cost per tooth, and the one ethical question — real veneer or ground-down crown — that matters more than any quote.
The procedures patients travel for
Most dental tourism falls into four groups. Veneers (e-max or laminate) are thin ceramic shells bonded to the front of a tooth to change its shape and colour. Zirconia crowns are full caps that cover a tooth that is damaged, root-treated or heavily worn. Implants are titanium posts placed into the jawbone to replace a missing tooth, later topped with a crown. All-on-4 and All-on-6 anchor a fixed full-arch bridge on four or six implants — the modern alternative to dentures when most or all teeth are missing.
Veneers vs. zirconia crowns vs. implants
| Option | Best for | What happens to the tooth |
|---|---|---|
| E-max / laminate veneer | Front teeth: colour, shape, small gaps and chips | Minimal — roughly 0.3–0.7 mm of enamel, sometimes none |
| Zirconia crown | Damaged, root-treated or worn teeth; molars; bridges | Full coverage — the tooth is reshaped all the way around |
| Single implant + crown | Replacing one or more missing teeth | Nothing — a titanium root is placed into the jawbone |
| All-on-4 / All-on-6 | A whole arch of missing or failing teeth | Any hopeless teeth removed, then 4–6 implants placed |
Which restoration suits you depends on an in-person exam and X-rays, not a photo. A good clinic recommends the most conservative option that solves the problem.
The ethical line: a real veneer vs. an aggressive crown prep
This is the distinction that protects your teeth for life. A genuine veneer removes only a thin sliver of enamel — roughly 0.3–0.7 mm, sometimes none at all — and leaves the tooth essentially intact. What is often sold as a 'veneer package' in high-volume clinics is something else: the healthy tooth is filed down to a small peg so a full crown can be slipped over it. That is faster, works on crooked teeth without orthodontics, and lets a clinic quote a whole smile in one week. It is also irreversible — and grinding a healthy tooth that close to the nerve can trigger sensitivity, nerve death and root canals years later.
The over-treatment red flag
Be very cautious if a clinic proposes shaving eight, ten or more healthy front teeth into pegs for 'veneers'. If teeth are being reduced to small cores, you are getting crowns, not veneers — an irreversible choice with lifelong consequences. A full-mouth 'Hollywood smile' quoted on healthy, untreated teeth deserves a second opinion, not a deposit.
Materials and the lab behind them
- E-max (lithium disilicate) is the front-tooth favourite: translucent, natural-looking and conservative on enamel — but less ideal for the heavy chewing load at the back.
- Zirconia is stronger and better suited to crowns, bridges, molars and full-arch work; older monolithic types can look opaque, while layered zirconia balances strength and aesthetics.
- Ask where the lab is and who runs it. The ceramist matters as much as the dentist. A named in-house or established local lab beats anonymous outsourced work you cannot trace.
- A restoration is only as good as the fit. Well-made e-max or zirconia work realistically lasts 10–15 years; poor margins trap plaque and fail early, whatever the material on the invoice.
Implants: why osseointegration sets the schedule
Veneers and crowns can usually be finished in a single 3–7 day visit. Implants are different, because biology sets the timetable: the bone has to physically fuse to the titanium post — a process called osseointegration — before it can carry a permanent crown. That takes months, and it happens while you are back home, not on holiday. This is why most implant cases genuinely need two trips. A clinic promising permanent implants-and-crowns for every case in one week is either using 'immediate load' shortcuts that not everyone qualifies for, or cutting a corner you will feel later.
Visit 1 · Days 1–5
Placement
Any hopeless teeth are extracted and the titanium implant post is placed into the jaw. Some cases receive a temporary tooth; many do not.
Weeks 1–2 · At home
Soft-tissue healing
The gum heals and sutures come out — often handled by your local dentist rather than another flight back.
Months 3–6 · At home
Osseointegration
Bone fuses to the implant. This cannot be rushed, and it is the real reason one trip is usually not enough.
Visit 2 · Later trip
Final crown
Once an X-ray confirms the implant has integrated, the abutment and permanent crown are fitted and the bite is adjusted.
What it costs
Turkey is cheaper because of lower wages, rent and lab costs, a favourable exchange rate, and clinics that do a high volume of international work — not because the ceramics or implants are inferior. The figures below are approximate per-unit ranges for guidance; your real price is set per case after an assessment and depends on how many teeth, which material and how much repair each tooth needs. Many patients book a full-smile package, which is why the headline figure of around €2,500–€6,000 covers a set of teeth rather than one.
| Procedure (per unit) | Approx. price in Turkey |
|---|---|
| E-max / laminate veneer | €180–€350 per tooth |
| Zirconia crown | €150–€300 per tooth |
| Single implant + crown | €600–€1,100 per tooth |
| All-on-4 (fixed bridge) | €3,500–€6,500 per arch |
| Full-smile package (~20 units) | €2,500–€6,000 |

Choosing safely and the written guarantee
- Get the treatment plan in writing — veneer or crown, how much enamel is removed, which material and how many units — before you pay anything.
- Confirm a real dentist does the prep, not an unqualified assistant, and that you can see qualifications and case photos of similar work.
- Be sceptical of one-week 'permanent implants for everyone' and of a full-mouth quote for healthy teeth that no local dentist has flagged.
- Get the guarantee in writing before you pay: what is covered, for how long (5–10 years is common for quality work), who pays for a remake, and whether return travel is included. WhichClinic lists clinics with verified credentials and written guarantees, but the principle is universal — a verbal 'lifetime guarantee' from a clinic you may never revisit is worth very little.
A note on this information
This page is general information, not medical or dental advice. Whether a veneer, crown or implant suits you — and what it will cost — depends on an in-person assessment, X-rays and your medical history reviewed by a qualified dentist. Always seek an individual professional opinion before treatment.
Good dentistry in Turkey is real, and it is affordable. But your enamel does not grow back. The patient who leaves with a healthy, conservative result is almost always the one who asked why a tooth needed touching at all.
